Mr. Thomas D. Connolly
Secondary School Principal
Tom Connolly began working at AOSR on July 1, 2008 as the secondary principal (grades 6-12). Originally from Wisconsin, he earned his BA from the University of Wisconsin - Madison (History major, French minor) and his Master's in Education (Administration and Supervision) from Plymouth State University, New Hampshire. He has spent many years of his educational career overseas beginning at the American International School in Vienna teaching history (including AP U.S. History, Ancient to 20th Century History, and photography) for 16 years. After earning his MEd, he was an assistant principal for grades 6-12 at the American International School in Kuwait for 2 years.
The next nine years were at the Escola Americana in Rio de Janeiro where he was the Upper School Principal. For the past two years, Mr. Connolly was Head of Secondary School at the Bavarian International School in Munich, Germany.
Mr. Connolly is proficient in computer technology including web programming, internet use, and digital film editing. He has extensive experience working in schools with both the AP and IB programs and host country programs. Mr. Connolly has also coached boys' basketball, served as MUN Director and Advisor for Student Council, and was elected Vice-President and President of the Principals Association of American Schools in South America. He speaks French, German and Portuguese and is already taking lessons on improving his Italian.
